Gentle Thai Massage
What is Thai Massage?
Thai Massage is a style of fully clothed holistic bodywork that combines passive stretches, compression massage, joint mobilization, reflexology and more, with primary focus on improving the flow of the energetic channels called "sen" (similar to the meridians of acupuncture). To apply these techniques, the therapist uses their palms, forearms, knees, feet and more. When the flow of energy throughout these channels is optimal, our ability to heal is vastly improved.
Traditional Thai Massage is done fully clothed, with no lotions or oils. Instead of using a standard massage table, the treatment is done on a thick and comfy Thai Massage mat on the floor, which also offers a more grounding experience.

Thai Massage, a gentle approach
I am emphasizing "gentle" because that is what most resonates with me as a therapist.
There is a common misconception of Thai massage that it is typically very intense and painful. This is certainly not true with my style.
This session is for you if:
-
you are extra sensitive to touch or energy
-
you need help in slowing down
-
you are ready to "let go"
-
you want to experience something more mindful in a massage session
-
you want to work on healing past trauma through bodywork
Trauma Sensitive Thai Massage
Rooted in sensitivity and compassion, this approach not only acknowledges the deep connection between the mind and body but also fosters a supportive environment for individuals to explore and transform their inner experiences, encouraging healing and restoration.
Trauma-informed massage therapy is a specialized practice that understands the physical and emotional impacts of trauma on the body. It combines trauma-informed care principles with massage techniques to establish a safe and nurturing space for those who have faced trauma.
Potential benefits include:
Emotional Release: Trauma often manifests as tension and stress within the body. The healing touch of massage therapy can facilitate the release of these physical symptoms, resulting in emotional relief and comfort.
Alleviated Anxiety and Depression: Research indicates that massage therapy effectively reduces symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. The soothing effects of touch, combined with endorphin release during a massage, can elevate mood and lessen feelings of distress.
Improved Body Awareness: Trauma can create a disconnection from one's physical self. Massage therapy invites clients to reconnect with their bodies, fostering enhanced body awareness and a stronger sense of presence in the here and now.
Relaxation and Stress Relief: Trauma-informed massage therapy emphasizes the importance of a safe and tranquil environment. The relaxation achieved through massage can alleviate the physical symptoms of stress, contributing positively to overall mental well-being.
How is my trauma-sensitive Thai massage different from standard Thai massage?
Intake and Assessment: We will begin with a pre-session phone consultation. Here you are invited to share any boundaries or other sensitivities you may have in relation to your experience of trauma. I will explain in detail how the session will go and answer any questions you may have. Creating a Space that feels as safe as possible: Ensuring that you feel comfortable and empowered throughout the session is a top priority. Gentle and Mindful Touch: Moving slow and gentle, avoiding the kind of deep pressure techniques and/or stretches that could trigger trauma-related reactions. The emphasis is on delivering a calming and nurturing experience. Choice and Consent: You will be presented with options throughout the session. If you only are comfortable with your feet and lower legs worked on, then that is what we will do. Consent is consistently sought and respected in my sessions. Breathwork and Grounding: Breathwork and grounding techniques are often integrated to assist with remaining present and connected to your body during the session. This is especially beneficial for those who have experienced dissociation due to trauma. Integration: We will take time towards the end of our session so that you can gradually reorient yourself and reflect on your experience. This offers an opportunity to process any emotions and sensations that may have surfaced during the session.
